- The History Database with Attitude|
Yonks is essentially about fun. Now if you have spent your school years trying, and failing, to keep your eyes open whilst some crusty old history teacher droned on, desperatly waiting for him to start picking the wax out of his ear which signalled the end of the lession, then you probably think history is boring. But wait... how many times have you been watching the TV when you better half has insisted that the leading actor was dead? (And has wondered for the entire duration of the programme). Well now there is somewhere you can find out - Yonks. Now with Yonks; come the first ad break you can nip out do a quick search; confirm that yes they were killed in a bizarre accident with an orbital sander and settle down to finish the programme in peace. Presented as is history can be boring, but Yonks has attitude and we don't always take somethings too seriously as you will see from some of our comments on historic events. If any of these offend you then just take several deep breaths then tie a knot in your hanky to remind yourself to buy a sense of humour as soon as the shops open! At Yonks we don't claim to have the complete history of anything, just thousands of events that happened yonks ago, classified by subject and searchable. Of course sometimes just the bare bones of an event is not enough. Well associated with many of the events are links that can give you more detailed information. Of course trying to record everything that has happened yonks ago is a big job, and the database will never be complete (although if the famous could stop dying that would help a bit) and we will adding new entries regularly. We hope that you enjoy Yonks and find it useful for general enquiries, creating your own quizzes as well as solving family arguements. We are always interested in your feedback so please feel free to contact us at webmaster@yonks.co.uk We are quite happy for members of the media to broadcast elements from the site but we would ask that if you do, please acknowledge the site within your broadcast. |
